Fusion HD3 Studio Radio WordPress Plugin

The system is deployed via a plugin added to the student radio's existing WordPress web site, making multi-user music management as easy as posting to a blogA Flash-based upload wizard allows for bulk music uploading. The system enforces FCC and Utah Public Radio broadcasting requirements. Album art and lyrics are fetched from web services; music must be reviewed by two people before being added to the radio station's active library.Approved music can be easily organized and classified using an intuitive drag-and-drop interface. Helpful tooltips guide users as they move, copy, delete, and classify songs.

For my undergraduate capstone project, I worked with a team of three others to redesign the Utah State Univeristy student radio web site. Fusion HD3 faces many problems, but chief among them is the difficulty of adding new music to the radio station. A single computer is connected to the broadcasting equipment, and because the radio station has student DJs from 8am until 10pm every weekday, finding time when a radio broadcast isn’t scheduled to add music to this computer is challenging. Additionally, because of broadcasting requirements from the Federal Communications Commission, Utah Public Radio, and the university, all new music must be reviewed by one of the radio station managers to ensure it does not contain profanity.

Our system aims to resolve these difficulties by integrating the music management functions into the student radio’s existing WordPress web site. By connecting the Spacial Audio SAM Broadcaster with WordPress, multiple users can upload, approve, organize, and mange the radio station’s music library from any computer with an Internet connection.

The intuitive drag-and-drop user interface for uploading, approving, and organizing music that I coded with a combination of JQuery, JavaScript, PHP, and MySQL simplifies and greatly speeds up a once inefficient process.
